Second edition of our annual skateboarding event kicked off in style in Goa on 6th of April 2024. This year the crowd and energy was much bigger and filled with positive vibes. Kudos to all Skatelifegoa community for pulling this off again in style. It feels great to see skateboarding in Goa is growing bigger and bigger as years are passing by! Following is a small highlight video on what went down this year at SLG Open (Link at the bottom).
SLG Open started off with skateboarding workshops for all ages. There were participants ranging from as small as 5 year old all the way to 40+ age group. Everyone wanted to be the kid which they always dreamt off :). There was community mural set up by Bookworm where anyone could express whatever they wish on a plain white canvas.
Andd! it was time for the contests. The 1st contest in the line up was a simple one, ollie over 2 boards contest. It was open for all age groups. The first 10 participants to ollie over 2 boards wins any apparel of their choice from the box full of goodies. Goodies got over in split second!
The next contest was the best trick for both men and women. Winner takes apparels from Back Alley bodega + No more recyclable bags + skatelifegoa decks sponsored by Deitys and Rs4000 cash (Prize is the same for both man and woman). Sandip hailing all the way from Nepal grabbed the 1st place from best trick men's for landing a big spin, and our homeboy Velister grabbed the 2nd place for landing a heel flip leg switch. In women's category, Sara grabbed the 1st place for shiv it, and Tulika with the 2nd for landing Ollie 180. Judging the womens contest was a tough one, judges found it very hard to come with a clear winner. Finally after lot of discussion the winners were declared considering all factors, it was a very fine margin.
The last contest of the day was the Longest ollie. There was an intense battle between Dev from pune and our home boy Andy Topo. At the very end, Andy landed ollie over 14 boards and won the contest. He almost took a flight, it was a sight to see! Dev grabbed the 2nd place.
It was time to announce the most saucy skater of the contest brought to you by Sauce Skate magazine. It was bagged by Adarsh from Kerela. The prize is given to the most stylish and saucy skater of the contest. Winner decks + gears and Rs4444/- cash. The last and the final announcement for which the whole crowd was waiting was the Raffle winner. A lucky winner from the crowd was going to win a brand new skateboard from Skatelifegoa from the chit box collected via Raffle. For those who are unware what a raffle is.?, It's a lucky draw where you pay a very small charge for a token at the start of the event, at the end a lucky chit is removed from the box and the winner takes the full brand new skateboard. The Raffle winner was announced and the skateboard was handed over.
