Difference between a Surfskate and Cruiser Skateboard

May 31, 2025

Hi Folks, I hope everybody is having fun out there! The topic for today's article is ' What is the difference between a Surfskate & Cruiser skateboard. Are both the same? Do they operate the same way? What purpose do they serve?. Well all of this question will get answered as you follow along, lets not waste much time and dive straight into today's topic.

What is a Surfskate?
Surfskate is a board which is designed specifically to replicate/practice your surfing maneuvers. The trucks used in a surfskate is the key part of the whole set up. The freedom and axis of rotation is so much that it almost feels like you are surfing on a surfboard (You will connect only if you know how to surf). If you are looking to get better at surfing(when there are no waves/off season) or ever wish to surf someday and get your muscle memory game right, than the Surfskate is for you.

The way it function is a little different than how skateboards generally do. Of course you can push and skate around like a skateboard, but since it has more axis of rotation to replicate the surf action, you can wave it like a wave board and gain speed plus momentum without having to push again and again. This is how it generally happens on a surfboard too, where you kind off of move in a criss-cross motion to gain momentum & speed. Since it replicates and helps you get better in surfing, it is named as 'Surfskate'. If you are looking to buy a surfskate, Piso has a surfskate model on sale which we have designed almost for a year to cater both beginner as well as advanced surfskaters.

What is a Cruiser Board?
Well this is a no brainer as you all know, its a board designed to cruise around and have fun. You can use a cruiser skateboard for your daily commutes to market, within your work or college campus to move between departments or just stroll around in your locality late in the evenings or early mornings to get some breeze. It generally has a pointed deck to maintain the aero dynamicity and reduce the friction with air for more speed. Comes with soft hardness and bigger diameter for a smooth ride. Generally shorter in length in comparison to a skateboard to make it more portable.

If you are looking to grab a cruiser board, Piso has a cruiser board on sale in our webstore. A lot of thought process has gone into it. It is not just a random board with soft wheels. We have paid attention to each part of it, be it wheels, diameter of it, the wheel polyurethane formula, shape of the deck, removing the access wood to make it lightweight & reducing the length to the optimum which gives you the best control yet maintaining the portability of it. Oh mann! its such a joy to ride it. It was our passion project which turned out superr!. Do check it out if you are looking for one! Link - Piso Cruiser Board.
