Namaskaram everybody! This is Vaibhav from Piso Skateboards. So the topic for today's episode is- 'Skateboarding, a journey to the beyond'.
Most of the people get in this sports thinking it's cool, or because of the hype built around it. Some get fam, some don't, some get sponsored, some do not, some make their life out of it, others dream about it and the list goes on. Why is it that, when this sport gets into mind you are willing to do whatever it takes to stay with it. Have personally heard loads of stories from people across the globe on how they just cant live without skateboarding being part of their life :)
What makes this sport so unique? Why is that few idiots are willing to risk it all for this (I'm also counted in that idiot list). Well most skaters may have experienced this but might have not paid attention to this. Pretty sure the skaters who are following this series and have reached this far will connect instantly to whatever I say next. When you skate with your skateboard, your mind is focused, at the same time having fun with no stress at all, at the same time you are serious about whatever you are skating, but still no competing behavior against anyone. Having all this quality in one single activity is very rare, that's what makes this sport unique. It's like meditation. Now a lot of people might say we can close our eyes and sit and meditate instead. Well, meditation is a state of mind. Closing your eyes just aids meditation. Even when your eyes are closed, mind will go on playing its daily dramas and stories in your mind haha!.
Magic happens when the mind is extremely focused but still having fun. This is exactly what skateboarding makes you experience every time you get on the board. After a few years you start noticing the benefits and fruits of it, most of the skaters are unaware of this quality which skateboarding builds inside you.
Recently this sport is added into Olympics, soon there will be competitions taking up on a serious level where medals will be counted. Of course we feel proud when any Indian wins a medal for the country, we all are in tears when such a moment occurs. But at the same time there are chances we will loose the quality of this sport which makes this unique. Lot of debates going on around the world, whether skateboarding should be a included in international level competition or no, it's an endless debate, I have already covered this topic in previous episode. It has both positives and negatives, like how a mobile phone has. Depends on who is using it and how it's been treated.
If any of the skater is reading this or a someone who wants to start skateboarding is reading it, just keep it simple and raw. It'll give you immense benefits in your mental health. We personally feel mental health is of much more important then any competition or medal. Do participate in competition/Olympics but keep your mind healthy at the same time. Don't get trapped in the winning and defeating someone mentality. It's a brief life, live it before it ends :). How you live your life is what counts, what you achieved in life will not.
Yes, skateboarding is a journey to the beyond. It has transformed me and everyone around me/my homies into a wonderful human beings. I will always be grateful for skateboarding, It gave me and my team a new perspective to look at things and life around us :). We will do our best to pass on this gift of skateboarding to as many people as possible out there.. My wish is that everyone gets to experience this feeling at least once in their life.
So that's a wrap on today's episode of the founder series. The next upcoming episode will be the last one from this season, so stay tuned :).
