Hello everybody, today’s topic is slightly off topic from our core interest which is ‘how to protect yourself from E-commerce related frauds’. After being in the e-commerce business for almost 7 years, we have come across few common frauds which usually happens in this field.
Delivery OTP Fraud – To make sure a product ordered online is delivered to the right customer, valuable goods are often OTP verified through SMS. So, customers receive an OTP when the delivery is attempted which they have to provide to the delivery personnel, only then the shipment is handed over. On one end we want to ensure the product is being delivered to the right person, and on the other hand, the fraudster take advantage of this. Fraudsters often pick up the contact number from the shipping label data, and commit online cyber-crime. They often ask for OTP which has nothing to do with the delivery and commit cybercrime. We urge everybody to stay vigilant and alert while providing OTP to anybody. Quick commerce and instant delivery apps are growing rapidly these days. Most of them may not have any secured network system to avoid data breaches
TIP – Stay alert, read the message completely what it says and accordingly do the needful. Only provide the OTP if the delivery personnel is at the doorstep LIVE in front of you. Do not provide the OTP on a phone even if anybody insists at any cost.
Asking for money to make delivery happen – At times fraudsters take the number from the e-commerce delivery labels and ask money to make the delivery happen. Our products from PISO Sb are mostly free shipping. If at all we charge, it will be prepaid while placing the product online itself and not when its out for delivery. You do not have to pay anything at the time of delivery. This is common for most of the e-commerce or food delivery apps. No one charges for delivery fee at the time of delivery. If at all you receive such a call, it’s a fraud call and do not pay any money or scan any QR.
Link to attempt a delivery – This is pretty much straight forward. Fraudsters might again give you a call saying – Please confirm your order by clicking on a fraud link. No matter what it is, do not open/click any Link. None of the e-commerce or quick commerce service providers will ever tell you to click on a link for delivery.

To summarize everything:
1 – The way they get access to your number is through delivery partners shipping label. We at Piso do not display customer contact number on label. But still there can be a data leak from our 3rd party courier partners. So stay alert.
2 – If it’s a delivery related OTP, please read the message by taking a minute and see what it says. If it says something which has nothing to do with delivery OTP for example Adhar update OTP, WhatsApp sign in OTP etc. DO NOT PROVIDE. Most of the time the delivery guy will be at your doorstep when he will ask for the OTP. To be on safer side, unless your order shipment is not with delivery guy at your doorstep, do not provide any OTP.
3 – Do not click on any link.
4 – Do not pay any money for making delivery happen.
